Hi Pie Lovers! We’re excited today to launch our Indiegogo campaign for the 2012 B’Eat More Pie Fest, which is taking place (drumroll please) SEPTEMBER 2nd! This year we’ll be hosting the fest in the bigger space at 2640, which is excellent because it means we can grow, but challenging because we’re going to have to rent it. The rental fee means that we need to do a little fundraising to make sure Heart’s Place gets the sizable donation they deserve, so that’s why we’re reaching out. A small donation goes a long way, and we’ve got some AMAZING rewards.

Charlene’s Cold Blueberry Pie {Best Fruit Pie}

We’re excited to share with you some of the amazing pies entered into the 2011 pie contest. Today we’re sharing the winner of the Best Fruit Pie, Charlene’s Cold Blueberry Pie, by Megan Turcotte.

Charlene’s Cold Blueberry Pie

Megan says: This is a summer staple in John’s family; the recipe came from his mother’s college roommate, Charlene. It is so unbelievably easy to make.

1 pint blueberries, washed and dried, set aside 1 cup

1 c. water

1 c. sugar

1/3 c. flour
3 Tbsp butter

1 homemade graham cracker crust (I bake mine)

Cook 1 c. blueberries in saucepan with 1 c. water just till berries split. Add sugar and flour and cook till thickened. [Flour always gets clumpy on me.] Put in blender with 3 Tbsp butter cut up and blend.

Put remaining berries in bottom of crust and pour berry mixture over. Chill at least 4 hours or overnight. Serve with whipped cream. [or not!]

The main event at the B’Eat More Pie Fest is of course a PIE CONTEST.

The pie contest will be broken down into two judging categories, SWEET and SAVORY.

Categories:

Sweet:

- Cream or Pudding
- Fruit
- Nut
- Most Innovative
- Miniature
- Vegan
- Kosher
- Gluten-Free
- Best in Show Sweet

Savory:

- Meat
- Vegan
- Vegetarian
- Egg
- Kosher
- Gluten-Free
- Most Unexpectedly Good
- Best in Show Savory

Entry Rules:

Contestants must bring two full size pies (or 12 mini-pies). One will be submitted for judging/taste testing, the other will be auctioned off. All pies must be registered by September 9th and dropped off for judging by 12pm on September 11. Judging will take place at 2640 St. Paul during the festival. We will be accepting a limited number of pies per category. Once the category has been filled, it will be noted on the above list.
